A large brooding Bellarmine jug from the 2nd half of the 17th century, c1670 Frechen. Decorated with a stylised medallion to the centre of the belly, a pair of impressed shield marks to the shoulders and a typical characterful face. The base of the handle attractively detailed with 6 thumbed marks. Interestingly, this jug has been made in two or 3 sections, with the main seam around the belly clearly visible.

39.5cm

Condition: Old chip to the rim. On the left shoulder of the bottle there is a large indentation where another vessel fell into it during firing, with some pieces of the other jug stuck to it. Some deep lines of spidering crazing. A small number of chips around the body. Please check over the photos carefully.
