English Delftware Posset Pot c1680-1700
English Delftware Posset Pot c1680-1700
Late 17th century English Delft posset pot. Bellied form, with an S-shaped spout and twin scrolled handles. Decorated in scenes of Chinese figures within stylized landscapes. Painted in shades of blue, strongly defined by outlining in dark manganese or black.
This strong outlining is more often found on late 17th century Brislington Defltware, although the thick white glaze found on this example suggests it be attributed to London.
Previously with the Graham Slater Collection. Also retaining the label for Simon Westman.
Condition: An area of restoration to a crack from the rim down. Also a restored chip at the base of the spout. Very well done. Some glaze chips around the foot.
Literature: Delftware by Michael Archer, the Collection at the Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge England.
