A Roman motto beaker, or so called 'Spruchbecher'. Terracotta coated in black englobe and decorated in white paint. The belly in two levels between 3 bands: above with the letters FELIX (happiness, luck, fortune) separated by large dots, below with an undulating wave.

Roman, Rhenish - c300 AD.

Probably Trier.

Condition:  Complete. Faded decoration. Scratches and wear to the englobe. Chips to the rim. Areas of scraping, including one large worn area to the belly. Minor firing flaws.
